The Johnson Family - Help Loxley Fight Cancer
Donation protected
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but also a hopeful one.
My nephew, Loxley, a bright and loving 4-year-old, is currently undergoing cancer treatment after being diagnosed with a low-grade glioma, a type of cancer affecting his spine and brain. Loxley’s courage and resilience have been nothing short of inspiring, but the journey ahead is long, and right now, his family needs our help.
It all started last July when Loxley began experiencing severe pain and discomfort, including vomiting and intense bum pain. What seemed like a stomach bug turned into something much more serious, as he continued to suffer. After multiple trips to the doctor, hospital visits, and a series of tests, it was discovered that Loxley had a mass on his spine that had metastasized to his brain. This was the news that changed everything.
Since then, Loxley has undergone multiple surgeries, including a spinal surgery to remove part of the tumor and to address fluid buildup in his brain. He’s also had to endure numerous scans, blood work, and endless days at the hospital. He was most recently diagnosed with a large loss of vision in his left eye, which is also going to require attention. He needs physiotherapy, and the road ahead is long. Through it all, Loxley has remained incredibly brave, never losing his spark of joy. His courage has amazed everyone around him, even as he continues to battle daily pain and discomfort.
In January, Loxley started chemotherapy to treat the cancer, which will continue for at least two years. The treatments are tough, but thankfully, the chemo is low-dose, which has kept the side effects relatively mild. Even so, Loxley still experiences frequent pain, which requires a combination of strong medication to manage.
He has a port in his chest, implanted for easy access to his treatment, and although he’s no longer able to take all the medicines that used to help with his pain, he continues to show his true spirit, always wanting to play, cuddle, and bring joy to everyone around him.
Loxley is the most loving, cuddly, and rambunctious little boy. He’s a true ray of sunshine, always ready for a laugh, a hug, or an adventure. Despite his struggles, he remains a happy, energetic child who loves to be around his family, especially his sister, Remi, who at the age 8 is dealing with this life changing event remarkably well.
Unfortunately, this journey has taken a toll on his parents, Amanda and Jo. Amanda has been unable to work full-time, as Loxley’s treatments, appointments, and hospital stays require her constant care and attention. The stress of managing their home, taking care of Remi, and navigating all of Loxley’s medical needs has been overwhelming.
Although Amanda has tried to keep up with both her part time jobs; one as a medical transcriptionist and her other as a Bus Driver, the reality is that the demands of caregiving and the uncertainty of Loxley’s condition have made it incredibly difficult to make ends meet. His pain is just too intense to ride on the bus with her, so she’s had to leave this job behind which was a big part of her income.
We are asking for your support to help ease the financial strain on Amanda, Jo, and their family during this challenging time. The funds raised will go toward helping cover medical bills, daily living expenses, and the cost of Loxley’s ongoing treatments. By easing their financial worries, we can give Amanda the peace of mind to focus on caring for Loxley and supporting Remi through these difficult times.
Your kindness and generosity will make a world of difference. Any contribution, big or small, will help lighten the load and allow my sister and her family to focus on what matters most—Loxley’s recovery.
We are so grateful for your support, whether through donations, sharing this campaign, or simply keeping Loxley and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Your love and support mean everything to our family.
With deepest gratitude,
Danielle
