As some of you may know, my sister Whitney has been hard at work with her journey through the world of breast cancer. She is currently about halfway through the process. In September 2018 she discovered a lump in her breast. She was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. From that point Whitney became a brave and intelligent force in her own medical care. She is fortunate to be one of the patients at the amazing Ridley Tree Cancer Center in Santa Barbara. She has a large team of medical professionals from the center, throughout Santa Barbara, and beyond, providing the best care we could ask for.
She has undergone fertility treatments and retrieval to preserve eggs for her future. She had six intense rounds of chemotherapy and recovered from sepsis requiring multiple days of hospitalization. She had lymph nodes removed, a mastectomy on the affected breast, and the placement of a “filler” to prepare for future reconstruction. She has had hundreds of “pokes” and many other procedures in the last 9 months since treatment began. The next step for Whitney will be several weeks of radiation treatments followed by more surgery to remove the other breast, as a preventive measure, and to begin reconstruction.
The estimated time investment for Whitney to address her medical needs is over one year. She had to retire from her career in the restaurant business as her treatment became a full-time job. At this point it has become clear that there is a need for financial support to help with the expenses of living and to cover medical expenses not covered by her insurance. Many of you have asked how you can help so here we are!
The overwhelming love and support that Whitney has received from family and friends around us has been amazing! My family and I are ALL so thankful for ALL of YOU! Whitney is looking forward to the day when she can announce she is cancer free!
