The Jeff Beaton Scholarship

We have lost someone very close to our hearts recently, his name is Jeffery Adam Beaton.

For those of you that did not have the privilege of knowing Jeff, he had the soul of an angel. Without second thought, he was always looking out for anyone that needed his help- his answer was always yes. He had a smile and laugh that would light up any room he was in.

At Jeff’s celebration of life, friends and loved ones shared memories. His family shared this one:

We were in Toronto for a week many years ago. Jeff was working at Boston Pizza. Ken (Jeff’s dad) would walk over to see him when he worked late at night. Jeff would finish his shift around midnight and would always walk back to the kitchen to ask the head chef if there were any leftovers or returned plates. Usually he would leave with a few sandwiches. When Ken and Jeff would start walking home after his shift, Jeff decided to talk a different route. As they continued to walk this different path, Ken saw a homeless man selling books. As they approached, the homeless man would ask “Jeff, can you sit and talk tonight?” Jeff obliged and introduced his dad to this man and gave him the sandwiches. He thanked Jeff and they stayed and talked for a while. It turns out Jeff did this every night he worked late. Maybe sometimes he did not have food to bring, but always spent a few minutes to sit and talk with this man.

That is the kind of man we want to honour.

His love and knowledge for sports was unmatched and would debate at the highest level with the best. We have lost him but his legacy and name will live on with the Jeff Beaton Scholarship. The Beaton family has asked that all donation will go towards the scholarship that will go to a lucky athlete attending Saint Marys University, his alma mater.

We hope that Jeff’s legacy will continue to inspire all of us, on and off the field. Thank you for touching our hearts, and thank you to all those who donate, helping to continue his legacy.
