The Jason Hendricks Fund

What do you do when you don’t know what to do for someone? For Jason and Yukari Hendricks, that answer is easy; you take them into your home and feed them, love them, and show compassion toward them. You enjoy good times with friends and family over food, bonfires, and fireworks to celebrate the latest occasion. Jason and Yukari loved having people over to their home; they were pleased to host gatherings for many occasions.

Jason lived large and adventurous! His zealous zest for adventure and living life to the fullest was just ingrained in his soul! Yukari, his lovely wife, was his “True North”. She balanced his zest with her outgoing and deeply compassionate nature. She left her home in Japan to follow her handsome Marine back to the USA. Together they made a wonderful life that was fulfilling, adventurous, rewarding, and fun with their two lovely children, Amy and Alex. Now they need us.

Doctors discovered a tumor in Jason’s brain and he underwent an 8.5 hour procedure to remove a benign meningioma. While his surgery, performed by the incredible Dr. Nagib at Abbott Northwestern, went well and Jason was up and moving afterward, the next morning he suffered a sudden and ultimately fatal swelling of his brain, an incredibly rare malignant cerebral edema.

All who know and love this family want to help, but how? What do we do to reach out to Yukari, Amy, and Alex in their time of deepest grief? Yes, we can and will offer condolences, food, prayers, and physical help, but what else? What about the myriads of friends and family from around the nation and the globe? Well, that’s easy. We can follow Jason and Yukari's example of giving and serving others. We can love them from a distance by providing ease from the burdens of overwhelming medical costs, as well as the simple things like bills and groceries. Will this bring Jason back? Sadly, no, but it will help the family by melting the mounting expenses, thus giving them peace of mind and heart, relief to focus on helping one another through their grieving, and removal of any cause for worry for their financial future. Please give what you can. No matter how big or small the amount, they will appreciate your giving heart!
