The Jake Brierley Cup

Donation protected
Jake was a huge Derby County and football fan, so there is no better way than celebrating and remembering him than with the Jake Brierley cup!

Our beautiful Jake passed away aged just 23. Jake was born with a genetic condition called spinal muscular atrophy which left him severely disabled. Despite all his disabilities Jake has a real zest for life and faced everything life threw at him. Jakes real passion was football and he enjoyed playing wheelchair football with friends.

What is the Jake Brierley Cup

The Jake Brierley Cup is a 11 a side football match in memory of Jake. It's a chance to all get together and celebrate Jakes Life.

All money raised from the event and from this page will go to a charity called Remap. Here is a message from Jane, Jake’s mum :
“Our Chosen charity for Jakes Memorial football match is REMAP.
Remap Is the only UK's charity providing custum-made bespoke equipment to improve the quality of life of Disabled, ill and ageing people.
They help an average of 3,000 people a year.
Although Country wide with 65 branches in the UK I feel REMAP isn't as well known as some of the other charities.
Their volunteers and Engineers use their Knowledge, skills and Precious time to help others like Jake.
There are lots of different illnesses and disabilities but everyone has Individual needs with different requirements thats why custom Made equipment is so important.
We'd like to give them the Recognition they deserve.
I was first introduced to Remap a very long time ago as a young teenager whilst visiting my Aunty Dorothy in Lancaster.
My uncle Stan was pottering around in his garage
I think he was working on something to
Help a girl move her arm.
At the time i thought how wonderful
"my uncles an inventor" and was very impressed.
Amongst other things Stan designed an amazing Trolly for a young boy called Toby which he could Steer by moving his hips.

Jake was Severely disabled and anything to give him more independence no matter how small was a massive thing for him and us all.
When Jake was young Electric wheelchairs were not supplied to children under five.
A lovely gentleman from Remap (Maurice Elliot) made jake a wonderful electric car out of an old toy car body, joy stick, metal frame, wheelchair motors and batteries.
Jake (aged just 2years old) could drive around himself.
This was one of those massive moments in jakes and ours life’s.
Jake went from being stuck to my hip to having the independence and freedom to play anywhere inside and out and join in with his brother and sister without me being there.
Maurice and I did a TV appeal for more cars. Maurice went on to make 3 more bespoke electric cars for 3 other local disabled children (all with slightly different needs), which went on to help more children after they'd grown out of them.
Remap also made Jake a tray wash stand with a mirror that fit on to his chair so he could have a little independence in getting ready for school.
They also had imput in jake being able to use his stair lift himself.
I loved their personal service, They would get to know the client so they could better understand their needs.
We'd like to thank Remap for helping Jake and all of your help for us to support them
Thank you”
