The Irish Echo Community Champions Awards 2020

Míle buíochas — a thousand thanks — to all of those across the US who enabled us to smash through our $10,000 fundraising target which we set as part of the nationwide and hugely successful Big Irish Echo Campfire on  August 28, 2020.

Yet again, Irish America had our back and responded generously to our appeal for funds to keep the presses running as we near our 100th year of publication.
With your assistance, our office in New York has reopened and our print and digital editions are adding pages and subscribers.

Advertising and event revenue, however, remains challenging and for that reason we are still not able to host the physical gatherings of Irish American heroes and leaders which have been a crucial lifeline for our coffers over recent years.

However, we are taking the plunge with our first digital awards ceremony on, the Irish Echo Community Champions Awards , which will take place on Friday, November 13, 2020 online.

Again, there will be no charge to participate in this event and to salute those who have given outstanding community service during the coronavirus pandemic — but we are asking you to donate at least $10 towards our event costs.

The Community Champion Awards will give Irish America its first opportunity to say thank you to the unsung heroes of the Covid Crisis. We do hope you will join us to celebrate the very best of our indomitable community.

The Big Irish American Campfire 2020

Irish America responded generously to our appeal for support to see us through the coronavirus lockdown when our offices were shuttered and publication disrupted.

We’re pleased to say that, with your backing, we continued to meet our publication deadline each week. Wee are now bouncing back. Our office in New York has reopened and our print and digital editions are adding pages and subscribers.

Advertising and event revenue, however, remains challenging and for that reason we are asking all those joining the Big Irish Echo Campfire virtual forum on 28 August to make a $10 donation to our coffers.

To those who ensured we came through the biggest setback to our publication since our foundation in 1928, we say go raibh míle maith agat, a thousand thanks,  and renew our pledge to serve Irish America with a first-class news service.

We have now upped our fundraising target to $10,000 and call on all those who will gather around the campfire with us on August 28 , 2020 to help us reach this new milestone.

To our readers and all interested in the great Irish story

We are going through an unprecedented time and living a story that seems to have no end. But telling the story of Covid-19 and how it is changing our world is a task that journalists all over the world are undertaking, and at times regardless of extreme risk.

The Irish Echo is telling its part of the story, that part of it that specifically deals with Irish America, the Irish diaspora, and Ireland itself. And beyond this specific assignment we continue to report on all aspects of the Irish experience in America, as we have done since 1928.

However, the restrictions that have been generated by Covid-19 are presenting challenges the likes of which we have not seen in our proud 92 year history.

One of those challenges is how to keep going in the face of steep revenue losses. So in common with other publications around the world we are inviting those who feel our work is important, who believe this work should continue, to consider making a financial donation, of any amount.

We thank you for your time and consideration and fervently wish that, together, we all emerge from this pandemic safely and well.
