Help met publiceren van mijn boek The Intimacy of Solitude

Lieve lezer, welkom op de crowdfunding pagina voor mijn poëzieboek ‘’The Intimacy of Solitude’’. Zoals de meeste van jullie weten is schrijven een grote passie van mij. Zoals sommigen van jullie weten heb ik kasten vol met poëzie, spoken word, columns en verhalen thuis liggen. Enkelen weten ook dat ik mezelf met mijn teksten liever verstop. Pas als ik er niet meer ben, zou de wereld mij lezen.

Het afgelopen jaar begon dat idee mij tegen te staan. Ik raakte gefrustreerd wanneer ik andere schrijvers las die exact zeiden wat ik van mezelf vroeg te verzwijgen. Als ik zelf een dochter zou hebben zou ik haar nooit vragen haar woorden in te slikken. Waarom vraag ik dit dan wel van mezelf?

Nu ik toegelaten ben tot de kunstacademie voor creatief schrijven (!) en Europese politiek opnieuw hun bekende retoriek van dehumanisering en angstzaaierij toepast (die volledig tegen mijn waarden en bestaan in gaan), vond ik het tijd om te stoppen met mezelf te verbergen en in plaats daarvan mijn woorden te delen met de wereld.

Daarom heb ik besloten zelf een boek te publiceren bestaande uit 25 gedichten en proza, waarin ik jullie mee neem door drie verschillende verhaallijnen die gaan over de staat van ‘’het alleen zijn’’.

De eerste gaat over mijn Indische/Indo-Europese vrouwelijke familielijn en de gevoelens van (on)verbondenheid. De tweede gaat over de vertrouwensband met het fysieke lichaam en hoe deze beïnvloed wordt door endometriose en (seksueel) grensoverschrijdend gedrag. De derde verhaallijn duikt in de mentale golven van eenzaamheid en verbinding in de context van een steeds individualistischer wordende samenleving.

Voor mij is ‘’The Intimacy of Solitude’’ een combinatie van persoonlijke reflecties en maatschappij kritische analyses, en bovenal een oproep voor radicale zorgzaamheid en community in tijden van death politics.

Om deze magie werkelijkheid te laten worden vraag ik u, lieve lezer, om mij te steunen met de wortel van het vele kwaad: moneyy moneyy moneyyyyy. Hoeveel? €2500. Waarvoor? Het printen van het boek, het laten maken van het design door de Braziliaanse kunstenares Mila Bernardo (milabernardo.com), het organiseren van een presentatiemoment en reiskosten om het boek naar verschillende boekenwinkels & boekenmarkten te brengen in Nederland (en daarbuiten).

UPDATE: Ik ben op dit moment in afwachting van goedkeuring op mijn aanvraag voor een crowdfundingfonds. Dat zou betekenen dat de helft van het budget gesponsord zou worden! Fingers crossed!

Dear reader,

Welcome to the crowdfunding page for my poetry book ‘’The Intimacy of Solitude’’. As most of you know, writing is a great passion of mine. As some of you know, I have closets full of poetry, spoken word, columns, prose and stories at home. A few of you also know I prefer to hide myself and my texts. Only when I am no longer here would the world read me.

This idea started to bother me this past year. I became frustrated when I read other writers who said exactly what I asked myself to keep quiet. And if I were to have a daughter, I would never ask her to swallow her words. So why do I ask this of myself?

Now that I got accepted at the art academy to study creative writing (!) and European politics is again practicing its well known rhetorics of dehumanization and fear mongering (which strongly opposes my values and existence), I felt the time had come to stop hiding myself and instead start sharing my words with the world. That is why I decided to self-publish a book of 25 poems and prose.

In the book I take you with me on a journey through three different storylines that all touch upon the topic of solitude. The first storyline is a reflection on my Indische/Indo-European female family line and feelings of separation, connection and identification. The second one illuminates the trust bond with the physical body and how this bond gets influenced by endomentriosis and (sexually) transgressive behaviour. The third storyline dives into the mental waves of loneliness and connection, in the context of an increasingly individualistic society.

‘’The Intimacy of Solitude’’ to me is a combination of personal reflections and political critiques, and above all a call for radical care and community in times of death politics.

In order to let this magic come true I am asking you, dear reader, to support me with the root of all evil: moneyy moneyy moneyyyy. How much? €2500. How will it be used? Printing the books, making the design of the books (done by my favorite Brazilian artist & friend Mila Bernardo - milabernardo.com), organising a launching event and covering traveling expenses to export the book to different markets and shops both within and outside the Netherlands.

UPDATE: I have applied for a crowdfunding fund that would sponser half of the requested budget! I am currently waiting to hear back from them.. so fingers crossed :D
