The need for Latino families in East Multnomah County are growing. Children lack access to food as workplaces are unsafe and social support systems are under threat. We need your help to ensure our immigrant neighbors can meet their basic needs.
Immigrants are an essential part of our communities: they are our neighbors and friends, and contribute significantly to our daily lives. They are the backbone of various industries, from agriculture to hospitality, and enrich our society with vibrant cultures and diverse lived experiences. Above all, they are a vital part of our community, and they belong in our neighborhoods.
Currently, immigrant community members are experiencing extreme stress and trauma. Many are facing persecution, unjust detention, job loss, and the fear of family separation. Kids are losing educational opportunities, and our local economy is losing both labor and purchasing power because folks are afraid to leave their homes to go to work, school, and shopping. Now, households are at risk of losing access to essential food assistance, which for many is the only way to feed their children.
As we see families torn apart, with children crying for their parents and thousands more deeply unsure of their future, the time is now to act in true solidarity with our vulnerable neighbors.
Guerreras Latinas, with other leaders in our immigrant community, is establishing an emergency fund to provide essential services such as food, clothing, emotional support, and rent assistance. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to support families through potential income loss and other challenges 90% of donations will go directly to healthy food, household essentials, and financial expences. The remaining 10% will support Guerreras Latinas staff. In these times of fear and uncertainty, it is crucial to send a clear message of hope and unity, letting our immigrant communities know they are welcome, supported, and defended.
Your support helps ensure that no child goes to bed hungry, that families have a roof over their heads, and that our immigrant neighbors feel secure and valued in our community.
