The Ideal Theatre Grant for BIPOC theatre artists

Donation protected
The Ideal Theatre Grant has been established to support BIPOC teachers and artists as they work their way through GLMCC's teacher or actor certification; the ITG seeks to diversify not only the community of Michael Chekhov Technique teachers and practitioners but also, the training itself.

Our goal is to raise a total of $50,000 within 5 years to establish a perpetual and self-sustaining annuity that will support grantees each year, through the completion of their 3-year certification. Thanks to your generosity we have already raised nearly $20,000 in the past three years and have 5 artist-educator recipients on the road to GLMCC certification in the Michael Chekhov Technique. One of the recent Ideal Theatre Grant recipients and Certified Teacher, Geovonday Jones, is also now an Associate Teacher with GLMCC. This is an example of how your donations to this campaign have directly contributed to the mission of the Ideal Theatre Grant. With nationwide efforts to cancel AEDI initiatives in academia, we stand firm in our commitment to Ideal Theatre Grant's mission.

Currently, white faculty compose the majority of full-time faculty positions. Pedagogical certifications can be a key component to securing tenure-track positions in higher education. This is one of the main reasons we sought to establish the Ideal Theatre Grant - to contribute to an Ideal Theatre of the future, in which BIPOC educators would be supported in their journey to certification in a highly sought-after pedagogy in the sphere of academic hiring, and BIPOC artists would be supported in the ongoing enhancement of their skill sets. Having more BIPOC teachers in academia benefits all students, especially students of color who are often underrepresented on college campuses. Having more BIPOC artists in our industry benefits all theatre and performing artists.

Please help us to reach our goal! Share the fundraiser and spread the word.
