As many of you know, Cancer invaded the home of Von and Sherena in May and stole many hopes and plans and tomorrows when Von was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. If you don’t know Von, you should. He is a hardworking, compassionate man who has given his life to support his six kids and two grandbabies. His greatest joy is being a G-pa. He has spent the majority of his life serving others. He is the one you call in the middle of the night because you know he will answer. Many of you have your own “Von” stories where he repaired electrical issues, fixed a flat tire, or been a listening ear or the comic relief needed at just the right moment.

The diagnosis has been a struggle in so many ways. I know many have reached out with much appreciated love, words of support, and constant prayers. And many have asked for the opportunity to help this loving family fight this massive battle for time. Along with the overwhelming emotional toll, the medical expenses and loss of income have taken what little joy could be found. Sherena has taken on additional employment along with attending all of Von’s medical appointments and helping Brittany, their daughter with disabilities, navigate the complex emotional turmoil. The stress is unimaginable.
