Beds for Kids!
Donation protected
My name is Chris Boortz and as some of you know I volunteer as a CASA - Court-Appointed Special Advocate - for youth in foster care. One of my kiddos has been living in a group home for over three years, so I have spent a fair amount of time their visiting with him. But I only recently discovered that the kids were greatly in need of new beds. The facility is run by the Guidance Center of Lea County (New Mexico) and they do a great job caring for the youth in their care. But like so many nonprofits, their needs exceed their budget.
The local Ashley Furniture store is stepping up to donate the 12 mattresses that we need. Yay!
Now this is where you come in. We will need bed frames/headboards, linens, pillows, bed blankets, and bedspreads. We want to get at least a few extra of these items so they will have a back up supply on hand.
As the donations come in to make purchases, I will be searching for the best deals to make the best use of the funds.
Plus, there will be a new program called The Take-Away Blanket. Whenever a new youth comes into the group home, they will be able to choose from a stash of colorful fleece blankets and get a blanket they can keep and take with them when they leave. Everyone needs something soft and snuggly, especially these kids. We will be providing a start-up supply of blankets for this program.
Thank you!
