First I want to lead with full disclosure-We are going to be fine.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. We were told it was early and would require an operation and some quick rounds of radiation.
What I have learned is that doctors are just people making their best guesses.
In a super unexpected twist, they are now recommending several months of chemotherapy and then a longer round of radiation because of lymph node involvement. It is a super bummer to say the least. We had been working under a totally different impression and are feeling an earthquake under our feet at the moment.
On the bright side, I am not sure if we have ever felt so loved!
We have received flowers and cards and texts and meals and sweet treats. It’s been amazing.
We honestly thought all of this would be over in March but are now just seeing that we haven’t even hit the hard part yet.
So many people have reached out and asked how they can help and what can they do to support us.
While we have loved every single flower and meal that we received during the surgery portion of this now epic journey, we feel like the best way to support us going forward would be a small donation to our mounting medical costs.
Even with pretty good insurance, they just keep rolling in, not to mention the added costs of a wig or cold caps to deal with the hair loss from chemo, ongoing medications, and honestly probably therapy for the kids.
I really do want to be clear…..we are going be fine!
We are still planning a big family vacation for the fall, the kids are still going to camps, we will find a way to make it all work…
But if you are one of the many people who have reached out wanting to do something for us during this crazy time, then this is a way to take a huge weight off our shoulders so when this whole ordeal eventually ends we are not weighed down by it over the next few years financially.
There are much more worthy causes to donate to, but if you were thinking of sending flowers during this next treatment phase, then this would be a longer lasting gift for our family. We appreciate and love every single person in our community.
