My name is LJ and I am a survivor of Domestic Violence and abuse from a person with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) National Awareness Day is June 1st. I want to help educate people and bring forth awareness about this personality type in relationships. Shining light on this disorder will help others feel empowered to know what’s real and safe so people can develop healthy boundaries.
NPD is now grouped together with psychopathic disorder and sociopath disorder. NPD is recognized by professionals in the Psychology community as something to take very seriously with regards to domestic violence and abusive relationships.
I am generating funds to create a public art walk event on June 1, 2019 in downtown Santa Cruz, CA. This display will showcase the phases and tactics of people with NPD in relationships and tell my story.
What does your money support?
1. $3K Event fees and permits
2. $15K Artists fees
3. $1K builders who will be helping me install the interactive space and producing the entire installation to be shippable to take as a learning installation for schools or events.
4. $30K+++ Give to the Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center of Santa Cruz, CA who provided support, advocacy, and guidance through the hardest times of this part of life by showing up for me at court, explaining lawyer and court jargon, gave me tools and knowledge about what my options were/are, provide safe spaces if you need to be hidden from these individuals trying to get you. I want to gift the entire staff with self care gift certificates too!
The HUGO Project was inspired by...
One morning I had a vivid dream —I dreamt that I was walking through a maze that featured visuals with empowering messages. These phases of imagery explained what I experienced through a lens that I could tangibly grasp, and I felt a sense of peace
because I now knew how to protect myself.
When I opened my eyes, Hugo the most brilliant dog that I have ever known was next to me, in his honor, I named the project after.
I am an Event Designer by profession and have a BA in Visual Public Art. I am overjoyed with this theme and concept and I am determined to bring it to production regardless of whether or not I meet the goal. I believe in the importance of the educating people about Narcissistic Personality Disorder and helping others learn how to protect themselves.
I am already green lighted by the City of Santa Cruz and am partnering with the MAH (Museum of Modern Art in Santa Cruz) as well as the Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center.
