Please continue to help Sampson on his road to recovery!
Please see updates, costs are mounting further, but I can’t imagine life without this wonderful and loving furball! I have just lost Ginger, one of Sampson’s playmates, on Wed, Nov 10. I can’t lose Sampson. PLEASE support his healing when you can and share with others who might be able to help! We can lose the battle if we are forced to give up. That would kill me, especially after all of his effort and ours. Please read the updates and be part of his healing!
His story begins here: Emergencies can happen to any of us- even when we are young, previously healthy, in excellent physical condition, completely doted upon, and loved with every fiber of our companions' hearts.
One day, Sampson, a stunning 4 year old Maine Coon Cat who has been with our family since he was a small kitten, was feeling just fine. He was playing with his interactive toys, fetching his ball to be thrown again, cuddling up for an afternoon nap with his beloved companions Ginger and Molly, and reminding me to give him extra cuddles and skritches by gently patting me with his huge fluffy paws. Sampson's majestic face and beard are his favorite places to be skritched.
Without warning, the next day Sampson was lethargic and had no appetite. Within a matter of hours, his condition became critical. We rushed to an emergency vet. After multiple tests and days of agonizing waiting, he was diagnosed with a severe case of pancreatitis which was threatening to shut down his liver. He was placed in the ICU and remained for 8 days while the doctors struggled to stabilize him. He underwent surgery to implant a feeding tube through his neck so that life sustaining nutrients and medication could be administered as he could not eat.
He was released with a full pharmacy and literally a dozen pages of medical instructions. His condition is painful, so he has been given painkillers which render him very groggy and unable to play as he is used to. But this loyal boy still manages to get himself to his litter box. And he still purrs loudly when I reach beneath the cone he must wear to protect his feeding tube. He still wants me to skritch his beautiful face.
Sampson faces months of treatments. He will need several costly prescriptions, a specialized diet, painkillers, and multiple follow up tests and evaluations. His original bill is $10,000. I have not been able to work a full schedule for awhile because I just had surgery myself.
The anxiety and financial stress are not easy for any of us in our home, both humans and felines. It is hard to prepare for such an unexpected emergency, especially when your animal is so young and vibrant.
Would you please consider donating even a few dollars to help Sampson through this scary time so that we can get him back on his feet and fully enjoying his amazing life with the best family ever?
If you can't donate, perhaps you can tag and share to a fellow animal lover or any groups or rescues which you support.
Sampson and all who love him would be eternally grateful.
Thank you very much.
