Hope for Holly: Bringing lost children home using DNA analysis

The Hope for Holly DNA Project was established by Family History Detectives forensic genealogist Allison Peacock to help the family of Holly Marie Clouse locate their missing loved one using the science of DNA. Allison's story about how this came about:

"Holly Clouse was last seen in 1980 when she and her parents left New Smyrna Beach, Florida for Houston where her father, Dean Clouse was offered a job in construction. He and his wife, Tina were found murdered on January 12, 1981 in a heavily wooded area 100 feet south of Wallisville Road in Houston, Texas.

"The couple remained unidentified, known online as the "Harris County Does" until October 2021 when the science of whole genome sequencing and the investigative discipline of genetic genealogy were used to finally give them back their identities. I identified Tina while serving as a contract genealogist for Identifinders International. My former colleague Misty Gillis identified Dean.

"The identification of Dean and Tina Linn Clouse alerted law enforcement to the fact that at the time of their deaths they had a one year old daughter. Holly Marie Clouse hasn’t been seen since late 1980. Unfortunately resources and tactics for cases this cold are limited; so we must go out and find the leads ourselves.

"The Clouse and Linn families have all tested with AncestryDNA in hopes that spreading the word will inspire Holly to test and find them.

So many Hollys

"In the midst of this search several potential Hollys have written in for help, wondering if they might be Holly Marie. After hearing their stories, I knew I couldn’t turn my back on them.

"The overwhelming response from women who want to be tested to see if they might be Holly Marie Clouse has inspired me to launch a special project in her honor to assist possible victims of uncertain childhoods learn more about their true identities.

"Your donations will help spread the story of the search for Holly, as well as to help people who do not know who they are or where they truly came from discover their true backgrounds. Funds will be used to cover the cost of DNA tests, press release distribution fees, podcast production costs, travel expenses, genealogist stipends, and other expenses I'm currently incurring to try and help Holly's family be reunited with her. A visit to Tina and Dean's grave in the spring is planned. I'd love to help all the family members that want to be there travel to Texas.

"Funds will also help us help the women who are writing us for help determining whether they might be Holly. I never imagined so many people would grow up wondering who they really are. If not Holly - who are they?
