Hello! I'm Jill, a Midwest-based fiber artist also known as Hooey Batiks. For the past 30 years I've made a living by selling my creations. While online sales are an important part of my income, traveling to shows is my bread and butter -- and where I get to meet the people who buy my art. That means I need a reliable van to get me and my goods to shows safely! My 20-year-old Dodge Caravan has faithfully taken me all around the Midwest, but my trustworthy mechanic tells me she's on her last leg. It's time for a new used van!

Like everything else these days, prices are surprisingly high. So, I'm asking for help.

What I do: I use a variety of methods to hand dye fabric for clothing and home goods. While I dabble in ice dye, shibori, and geode dyeing, the technique that started it all is batik, a resist-dyeing method that uses melted wax to draw designs onto fabric. When immersed in the dye bath the waxed areas resist the dye and remain the color of the fabric that's protected by the wax. My work is a result of layering wax and dye baths on the fabric to get the desired designs and colors.

What I need: I'm hoping to raise about $8,000 to purchase a simple van that will hold the art, the tent, and me.

Prize fine print:

The bandanas and shirts all will be blue and white. While the general designs will be the same, there will be variations and it will take a little extra time for shipment. I am making them myself, one at a time. The shirts are unisex style Hanes Beefy T, 100% cotton; choose from sizes small - 4xl. The bandanas are approx 21 x 21 inches, 100% cotton. Claim your thank you prize by messaging me your prize choice, design, size (if T-shirt), and your mailing address. Prizes will be shipped only to the U.S. (unless your name is Jessica and you live in Spain).
