“The Profile”

The Profile was born from the passion of Alan Simpson, Mark Whitehouse, Gary Dunn and Phil Strachan essentially, to preserve Perth's past music industry in a resourceful and contemporary way.
We've been recording for over 2 years, to safeguard, many of Perth's - if the not the world's - premier musicians' life stories.
We're passionate about preserving the legends of celebrated Perth bands, musicians, technicians and promoters.
Already we have recorded over 95 remarkable stories from the industry.
The episodes air on Pro Copy's YouTube channel every Friday.
You can check out the interviews on www.theprofile.com.au

The Profile is a component of the overall proposal to create a website giving the user:
Ø  Bio’s
Ø  Discology
Ø  Music-videos
Ø  Photographs
Ø  Online-music streams
Ø  Purchasing of merchandise
Ø  Website/social media links, subscriber comments and user content uploads and more.

The concept of “The Profile “ is to interview 200 W.A. Musicians that performed from 1960 to 1990:
Ø  Where they were born.
Ø  What made them pick up that instrument to start their musical journey.
Ø  Their influences of the times.
Ø  Their stories! What they did and how they did it.
Ø  The Concerts! The Tours! The Fashions! The Pubs!
Ø  Radio and Television shows
Ø  Advice to young up and coming musicians

Why?

1.    This part of our heritage will be lost forever if it is not documented.
2.    Future generations can take inspiration from the stories told on “The Profile”, from people that were there and set up the beginning of Perth's music industry that exists today.
3.    Fortunately, we've captured people who are sadly no longer with us but had an important story to tell, which is now preserved and available for others to enjoy and learn from.
4.    To Create an interactive website that features all aspects of the West Australian Music Industry
5.    To take “The Profile” on the road to interview internationally acclaimed Indigenous artists like Phil Walley Stack, Hank Marvin and others whose personal circumstance limits their ability to travel to our studios.
The South Coast is home to artists such as Scott Wise, world renowned Luthier who also has a long history connected to the WA music Industry.
These “On the Road” episodes require extra funds to incorporate extra travel costs and time taken to do the interviews, however the cultural significance can’t be under estimated.
For example, In Broome we have The Pigram Brothers and their associated friends who are Musicians in their own right but also co-wrote nationally successful musical Bran Nue Dae and Corrugation Road.
Dr. Mark Bin Bakar aka, “Mary G” has been a significant motivator of the Broome and Kimberley music scene and has a long history…a great story that needs to be heard. These indigenous artists are known throughout Australia for their outstanding contribution to Music, The Arts & Indigenous Health…which can’t be underestimated in our community. They are willing to be interviewed to tell their stories, however we need funds to get a team up to Broome to complete their interviews and continue the interviews we are doing in Perth.
We have exhausted many avenues applying for Government funding but we fall between the cracks therefore, all funding to date has come from special concerts we have promoted and organised ourselves, and from our own pockets.
We are currently setting up a Non-for-Profit entity which will enable us to receive donations from business.
We would be grateful for your help to keep the interviews being aired every week.
