My name is Rylee Ann Kern.  

I have been diagnosed with congenital heart defects that consist of Hypoplasia Left Heart Syndrome ( my left side of my heart is smaller than my right side), Shones Disease ( I have a combination of left side heart defects) and a veryrare case of Wolffs Parkinson’s White syndrome that will affect me for the rest of my life. 

I am currently being treated at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C since my birthday May 21, 2020. I have undergone 2heart surgeries since I was born. One, placing pulmonary artery bands around the arteries of my heart to help with blood flow through my lungs to the rest of my body. Secondly, I had a major heart surgery which consisted of An Aortic arch repair and a VSD patch placement to seal a hole in the middle of my heart. (Picture below is right after surgery)  My doctors told my parents that I may need more open heart surgeries if my heart doesn’t grow with my body as I grow bigger.  

My mommy and daddy haven’t left my side since I have been here at Children’s National. They have been helping me heal the best way theyknow how. However, my parents are worried about medical bills, medications and medical supplies that insurance will not cover. My parents would like to ask for your help to cover theseuncovered medical bills and items that insurance would not cover so when I am discharged they can give me the best care possible without having to stress about my medical bills.
