The Heart of a Best Friend
Donation protected
With heavy heart, this is my first attempt at a GoFundMe page. Forgive me if there are spelling, punctation and/or grammer errors.
First, I want to tell the story of the truest heart one's ever known and the path to where we are today.
James (Jimmy) Snouffer; Born Feburary 28, 1963.. I was born years and years later in 1974. Jimmy was to never make it as a child to ever experience the joy of walking, communicating, or even understanding the simplest things in life. A butterfly for instance. The experts at the time wanted Jimmy in a special home. .I remember my grandmother having none of that.
I grew up with Jimmy as my brother, many of us grandkids did. Jimmy as long as we knew him was as normal as the rest of us. Everyone and I mean everyone in the nieghborhood knew Jimmy. He could walk (even run), could communicate with us.. I've heard some of the family suggest Jimmy had a vocabulary of maybe ten to twelve words... I disagree. He could tell us when he was hungry, thirsty, wanted to play and could curse with the best of us when we were teenagers. He always thought that was the funniest thing ever, though he truly had no idea what the words meant; none the less funny to us all at ten or eleven years old.
When our grandmother passed, my aunt Karen was tasked to the care of my uncle Jimmy. She took the role with great pride and has since for the past 28 years. I adore, idolize, and admire her strength. The decisions she's had to make over the years, the minutes, hours, and days she happily gave to Jimmy's care. He's broken his neck and back and was eventually confined to a wheelchair. Karen was smart, she took what money she had for Jimmy back in the 80's and preplanned every expense she could for the eventual time of his passing. He's never supposed to walk or talk remember.
Jimmy passed away Christmas Eve morning. He was 53. He'd never met a stranger and when he laughed with you, you knew deep inside he meant that laugh with every fiber in him.
Personally, I've had alot of friends come and go in my lifetime here and now thinking about it.. Not one person in my life matches the heart that Jimmy gave to anyone that was a friend. I've seen him cry once, never seen him complain (even over more than 100 surgeries in his lifetime) and had an incredile smile everytime the buckeyes would take the field.
Come to find out, prepaying funeral expenses doesn't mean "all expenses paid" We were told yesterday that inflation simply doesnt keep up with costs and we would be around $3000.00 short. Funds that must be paid by Friday.
Any funds raised or given in support will be 100% used to cover the remaning expenses.
Jimmy may not have known the beauty of the butterfly but the beauty he left the world makes up for that.
