My sister and her family had their home destroyed and car totaled after a 90ft tree fell from their neighbor’s yard during the storms that passed through Lexington, KY on April 2nd. Ashley, Seth and their three kids were all home at the time and it is nothing short of amazing that no one sustained life threatening injuries. My sister sustained a concussion along with a number of cuts and bruises. Their one daughter was trapped in her room but shielded from the collapsed roof by the top bunk bed and their other daughter escaped her bedroom with a literal second to spare. The house and most of its contents are likely a total loss. After an exhausting 48 hours, they were able to finally locate their two cats. While my sister’s family has much to be thankful for, the extent of their loss is staggering and the process ahead of them is overwhelming. Donations right now, no matter their size, will help Ashley and Seth cover immediate expenses that can’t be delayed while their insurance claim is processed, pay for deductibles for their house and car, allow Ashley to fully recover from her concussion prior to returning to work, and increase the chance that they can afford temporary housing near their current neighborhood thereby minimizing the disruption of kids’ routines.
