Karen Hawkins and I met when we were hosting Chinese exchange students in 2010. Since then, I've known her to be the most motivated and generous person I know - working hard originating home loans and serving the veteran community.

Since 2022, she has been diagnotsed with Long Covid, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Sjogren's Syndrome, and more. She began experiencing strokes and seizures, and on May 10th, had an emergency craniotomy after two masses were detected. They came back as high grade glial neoplasm and she is now looking at 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemo.

Needless to say, this is a huge financial impact, despite having insurance. Out of pocket expenses are expected to surpass $20,000 and since she has been unable to work since 2022, her savings and other assets are long gone.

Despite years of struggling with declining health and now this new bad turn, Karen has maintained a great attitude and hilarious sense of humor.
