Help Me Give Back to the Hardest Working Person I Know
Hey everyone,
I know times are tough for a lot of people right now, but I wanted to share a story about someone who truly deserves a little kindness.
Once a month, my housemates and I have the privilege of having an amazing cleaner come to our home. She’s one of the most humble, hardworking, and genuine people I’ve ever met. Despite speaking very little English, she works tirelessly to support her family back home in Brazil.
To get to our place, she travels over 1.5 hours on public transport—each way. Wanting to make her journey a little easier, she spent a whole year saving up every spare dollar to buy herself an e-scooter. It was her way of cutting down the long walks from the bus stop to the homes she cleans.
But last week, while stopping to buy lunch in Dee Why, her scooter was stolen—despite being fully locked up. She was devastated. She told me she never thought something like this would happen here in Australia, a place she believed was safe.
She hasn’t asked for help. In fact, she just keeps working, pushing through like she always does. But I know how much that scooter meant to her—it wasn’t just transport, it was a small piece of relief in her exhausting days.
I would love nothing more than to replace it for her, but like many of us, things are tough financially right now. I’ve donated $100 to start, but if anyone can contribute even a small amount, we can come together as a community and show her the kindness and generosity that she believes in.
Let’s help restore her faith in the good-hearted people of the Northern Beaches. If you can spare anything, no matter how small, it would mean the world to her.
Thank you all so much.
