The Guy’s Hospital Transplant Team
Donation protected
The Guy’s Transplant Team is an amazing community of transplant patients, their families & donors from Guy’s Hospital in London who come together for support and activities.
This team, this family, is a support network for each other; welcoming new and old members and gaining strength in numbers each year. Many of the team have grown up together and are there to celebrate each other’s achievements and best moments, but also to be there as comfort and support during the bad ones. We welcome new members throughout the year, either newly transplanted or young adults graduating from Evelina Children’s or GOSH Renal.
Each year, the team comes together and competes at the British Transplant Games, a 4-day sports festival that celebrates the gift of life, where transplant recipients, donors, supporters and live donor families from across the UK (and even the world!) unite to raise awareness of organ donation and to celebrate transplant life.
The Guy’s Team is force to be reckoned with, competing in nearly all of the events across all 4 days, and bringing home an impressive medal haul.
But the team, and the Games, isn’t just about sports. It’s about raising awareness of the importance of organ donation, and to showcase what can be achieved from this incredible gift and to hopefully inspire others. It is an honour and a privilege to highlight that each year, in the black and gold kit of Guy’s.
For Guy’s Team to achieve this and bring everyone together, and to give patients the opportunity to achieve personal bests or try a new sport, we aim to cover the accommodation costs for the patients and a supporter, which is usually the biggest barrier for attendance. We believe that the Games is an unmissable opportunity for transplant patients to connect with others that have shared experiences, to gain support and to be a part of this community, regardless of background or affordability.
So please support the Guy’s Transplant Team to attend the British Transplant, and to continue to welcome new members as well as old. The friendships forged and the memories made during a few days each summer will last a lifetime.
