Here we are, fundraising to purchase a brand new digital x-ray machine for our animals at the GSPCA (The Grenada Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) on the island of Grenada in the Caribbean. This x-ray machine will benefit the animals of the shelter and the community animals that are brought to the shelter clinic for treatment. Unfortunately, after many years of service, our current x-ray machine stopped working in March of 2020; this machine was a second-hand machine when received and, unfortunately, can not be repaired.
Every week several animals are brought to the shelter clinic seeking vet care, and who many times require imaging for our vet team to know what the next step in treatment should be and whether surgery would be necessary. As our stray population on the island is high, we see many road traffic accidents. Thus many of the animals brought to us would benefit from having an on-site x-ray to diagnose the exact injury. Having an x-ray on-site will also assist us in seeing and treating more animals. We currently have to pay to get any animals x-rayed at a private teaching facility on the island, which is not always feasible. We would be able to diagnose injuries quicker, and then treatment plans can be put in place faster as well. All in all, so many more animals will benefit from this!
We have been quoted for a brand new Vet Ray SDX-V17 Gold model (details to be posted in an update), and would also need to ensure enough is raised for duties and shipping to the island. We have chosen to reach for the stars and try to raise enough for a brand new machine, and thus then hope that this machine will save countless more animals for many, many years to come!
We, at the GSPCA, thank you for your support and please know that every dollar received would take us one step closer to making this dream a reality and thus save more lives!
