The Grind and Vine Vandalism Relief Fund
Donation protected
The Grind and Vine have been subjected to 5 targeted attacks of vandalism, property damage, arson, and hate crime since we opened on November 26. The first incident on December 7 was property damage of our outdoor planters. Then on December 9 two cases of arson causing a fire at the back of the building. On December 13 I arrived at my business to see two windows smashed in by the vandals. And on December 16 one more window was smashed in as well with graffiti portraying hate speech towards my sexual identity.
We serve premium coffee and dabble in wine. Our coffee house and wine bar is the perfect spot to meet up with old friends or to meet new ones. We offer a curated social environment that prides on inclusion and accessibility.
Our team has been so inspired by the community's response to the attacks against us. After some customers recommended we create a fundraiser to pay for the damages caused by these attacks, we decided to reach out to the community for help. Starting a business during COVID-19 was already a challenge, and after being targeted multiple times, the costs to make repairs are piling up. The money raised here will go towards repairing our storefront, cleaning up damages caused by the arson, and continuing to give our amazing customers the best experience possible.
As a young entrepreneur starting a business is challenging enough, especially amid the adversity of Covid-19. It is discouraging seeing these acts of hate occurring during what was a very exciting moment for the district of Quinte West. However, our community is strong and resilient and we are proud to continue to serve the district of Quinte West.
