BDAY FUNDRAISER! MAY 2023!!!
OK
So I am turning 55 on May 8. I am trying to raise at least $1055 dollars to help support the cost of our foster cats. We now have 6 that are inside and 15 + outside.
We always need FOOD and TNR medicine.

However, my current goal is to get a better enclosure for the indoor cats!. We never intended to have the cats as long as we have and we have not been able to find forever homes for them. We DESPERATELY need a better space for them but that costs $$$$$ Won't you help us out?

While we would like to build something, that takes time and design time. I am looking at a specific unit on AMAZON that can be adapted as our space changes.

It costs $219, but I am trying to raise at least $250 dollars in the next 24 hours to purchase it PLUS some extra enrichment toys and food.

Please help us reach our goal! Thanks

ORIGIN STORY:
PICC ATTACK.

ON Thursday, August 12, 2021, one of our cats was horribly attacked by a person trespassing on our property. She was kicked in the head and her eye was critically damaged and her cheekbones were fractured. She had to have surgery which cost over $500 (surgery, and medicines and supplies for her recovery as well as caring for her 4 week old kitten she can no longer nurse. This incident has illustrated the urgency of getting these cats properly taken care of as well as provide safer enclosures etc.

Our original goal was $5000 which would definitely go a long way in helping us getting our cats fixed and properly cared for, but in addition to this latest incident we realize how truly precarious and vulnerable our cat community is and how urgent getting funding is!.

WHERE WE STARTED:

OUR STORY…

We are the accidental caretakers of a community of cats. Living out far away from affordable cat resources it has been challenging to get the cats in our care properly fixed. We have been feeding them and have started to get many of them fixed but due to distance and logistics to the closest low cost spay clinic (over 30 miles away) it has been a challenge. We are only allowed to bring 2 in at a time, in trap cages and they have to be dropped off and picked up before 8 am.  We do our best and care for them as best as we can.

We currently have 23 cats. They are in different stages of tameness. Generally, most are able to be petted and some of the younger ones we have managed to hand tame. Yet, we are realistic that because most shelters are full and it is hard to find homes that we will more than likely be caring for these animals for a while until we can find suitable homes.

However, we need to get them all fixed. Some we have been doing for free with a grant from the county. However they do ear tip them. The cost to get the cats without ear tipping is helped by some community vouchers that can bring it down to $5 per cats. However, that does NOT include their vaccinations. The necessary vaccinations include RABIES, DISTEMPER (FVRCP ) and the Feline Leukemia TEST and Vaccine (FeLV ) the cost total for those can be upwards of $100.. per cat!.

In addition to getting them spayed and neutered, and in getting their required vaccinations they always need food. Our cats go through a 40+ lb bag of food every two weeks but we are rationing that very carefully and that costs us around 30 dollars for basic low grade cat food. We figure about $1500 dollars to feed them with a better grade cat food for a year.

In our journey we have learned just how lean resources and funding is with regards to getting community cats fixed and finding proper homes for them. Shelters all over the state as well as the country are maxed out and funding is tight. Calls for fostering cats (and dogs and other animals) is at an all time high!. There is no governmental funding at all in our county to help cats. There is a bit for dogs.. but everyone all over the place is pretty strapped. We do what we can do and your donations to our shelter do help to care for the rural community cats in smaller counties. Cities and urban counties get more attention overall than rural community cats.

There are barn cat programs where rural community cats that have been fixed can find “forever homes’. But mostly, cats are on their home, leaning on the kindness of humans that want to make a difference.

Thank you for helping make that difference!!!!

We never intended for this to be a formal shelter. But as our journey as evolved, we realize how dire the issue is and we have seriously considered getting a Non-Profit status and expanding in order to help care for these rural cats!.

We will see where this takes us!

Again,

Thank your for your generous donations!!!
