The Gooch Gang

My brother's story was shared on Facebook yesterday by my sister-in-law.  His career was in nursing before his accident but he was taken out of work by his doctors in October of 2016 because of his worsening symptoms.  Kenny has 3 beautiful children and a wife that adores him, but this injury with all it's complications, has taken a tremendous toll his family in the past 3 years. He has had, and will continue to incur multiple bills from various doctors on his treatment team but also there are travel expenses to consider because the majority of his physicians are out of town. If you are unable to make a monetary contribution to his family, that's OK, but please, please remember them in your prayers! His tale briefly:

We, Gooch and I, wanted to thank all of you for your sweet comments on our family pics! :) Also, SO many of you have asked about Kenny's upcoming surgery I thought I would share what our family has been going through and try to explain the road ahead for those of you who may not know and also for others who are interested in details.

A lot of you know that Kenny fell and seriously broke his femur in April of 2014. Since that time, it has been a long and hard journey for our family. He has been battling multiple different problems and the doctors finally figured out that the hardware in his leg, from the original surgery, is infected and it has destroyed his hip. To begin to repair this damage, he will require a dangerous surgery on JULY 25th, but it will probably be the first of many.

After they remove the area which is most affected by this infection, he will be non-weight bearing for 4-6 months and will require at least 8 weeks of IV antibiotics, just to start. The treatment team he has at UNC are some of the best of the best, but they are careful not to encourage us too much about this process, as the germ he has is virulent and they say his "prognosis is unknown".

I lay hands on my big Gooch nightly and pray over him. I know that there are many, many other people, including our own family and friends, who hold us up in prayer too and we are so grateful for you all. We are so blessed with a loving church family who are faithful to keep us in their thoughts & prayers, as many of them have also watched his obvious struggle and decline after this life changing injury.

Your prayers are appreciated and needed for our family in the coming days and months. Kenny is too humble to ask on his own behalf, so I'm asking for him and for our children, because he is in constant pain and they are in unfortunate turmoil. Relentless worry is my heavy shadow these days but I KNOW God can heal him completely and this will always be my fervent prayer.

Please join me and lift him up as we place our confidence in the doctors but our HOPE in the Great Physician, and in Him alone.
