Martin is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. He is the middle child to Joana and Nuno Gomes, brother to Mariana and Mateus. He is happy and so loving. He loves to play video games, soccer, and build legos. Martin loves helping others. Even if it's a hard task, he doesn't give up. He's a very strong boy!

This gofundme is in support of the Gomes' family who are currently going through every parent’s worst nightmare. At the beginning of February, Martin began suffering a headache, and after multiple visits to the ER, doctors kept dismissing his symptoms as a severe migraine and simply sent him home with pain medication. On February 16h, 2024, Martin was admitted to PICU due to his symptoms worsening - his right side had paralyzed and wasn't verbally responding. After being transferred to a pediatric hospital, an MRI showed he had suffered a stroke and various seizures. On February 220d, 2024, after extensive testing, the doctors were able to find the infection causing havoc on Martin's body, Valley Fever. In Martin's case, it is a very rare case of Valley Fever as the infection is his brain and his spinal fluid.

Considering the toll this condition can have on anyone, but especially on a child, Martin has been so so strong and resilient. This has also taken a toll on Martin's parents and siblings, as can be imagined. In order for his mom and dad to be by his side and make sure he's getting the very best of care, and take care of his siblings, they have not been able to return to work and there is currently not an estimated date for when Martin will be well enough to go back home. At this time, it's a take it a day at a time for them as a family, and doctors aren't sure that Martin will fully recover from going through this.
