Carol Sarault ,The owner of the Old world Gingerbread Village restaurant located in Mapleton Oregon was forced to close last April due to health issues. The last two months have been extremely challenging and the gingerbread family is reaching out for support.
Our last day in court is pictured below.
This legal fight was never something we wanted, but it became necessary after our historic restaurant in Mapleton was taken over unlawfully. From the very beginning, we were forced to defend ourselves simply to protect a place that has served this community for generations.

So many people stepped forward to help make it through this process — most of them volunteers, not employees. They gave their time, energy, and support out of a sense of responsibility and care for what is right. That generosity is something we will never forget.

The legal process was long and costly. More than $10,000 has already gone toward legal defense, court hearings, and the eviction process. We are still waiting to recieve the month of December's invoice. While the eviction was ultimately necessary, the financial strain has left us in a very difficult position.

This restaurant is more than a business. It is a historic landmark, a gathering place, and a piece of Mapleton’s story. Preserving it matters — not just to us, but to everyone who values community, history, and small local businesses built to last.

Asking for help does not come easily, but we are doing so now with humility and hope. If you feel called to support us during this time, any assistance is deeply appreciated. Contributions can also be sent to:

Sharing this message also helps more than you know. Thank you for standing with us, for caring, and for helping ensure that this place — and its legacy — can continue for years to come.
