The Gillett Family Needs Our Help
Donation protected
Hi, Pastor Nate Harmon here. Throughout the last month, many of us have seen the devastation that Hurricane Ian has caused throughout South Florida, particularly Fort Myers. A few years ago, our friends moved to Fort Myers, Kevin, and Angela Gillett. I have known this family for 15 years. We met while ministering at First Baptist Church in Medina, Ohio. I can say firsthand that Kevin and Angela are people who serve, help, and love those who need it. And now they need friends and family to serve, love, and help them.
Moving to Fort Myers in 2020 allowed Kevin and Angela to live closer to their sons. After moving to the area, Kevin continued working remotely, and Angela accepted teaching positions for gifted students on nearby islands, Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach. The house they purchased is a two-story with two living spaces. One on the top level and one on the bottom. Their son Justin and his family lived on the top floor, while Kevin and Angela lived on the bottom. Below is a map of where their house is located.
September 28th, 2022, the Gilletts suffered tremendous loss in the wake of Hurricane Ian. The bottom level of their home was completely flooded. Both levels of the home suffered extensive water damage with the loss of their roof.
The picture above is of Kevin and Angela's street and represents all of their personal belongings lost in the aftermath of the hurricane. The Gilletts recently discovered that all their personal items lost in the flood would not be covered by insurance. This includes all of Kevin and Angela's personal items, all kitchen appliances, furniture, clothing, family memorabilia, and thousands of dollars in tools and equipment that Justin uses as a freelance woodworker. This is Justin's livelihood. The total calculated loss not covered by insurance is estimated at $40,000.
To make things more interesting, Justin’s wife had their second baby on October 28th, 2022. We congratulate them, but also know this presents more challenges as they weed through housing needs and things needed for the baby in the coming weeks.
Those that know Kevin know he is a hard worker and has always provided for his family, but this hit is very devastating to their family. In all reality, this family could be facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in loss. When Kevin reached out for help, I knew that they needed it.
So here I am asking you to help a friend in need. I know they would do the same for any of us. Help them by donating, sharing this page, praying for them, and encouraging them as the days ahead are going to be difficult. All funds will go directly to Gillet's personal accounts for immediate use.
Prayer Requests:
- Pray for Justin and his family as they settle in with a newborn
- Pray for Angela, as she is a teacher navigating education for students on Sanibel Island during this hard time.
- Pray for wisdom for the entire family.
- Pray that insurance would help finance the reconstruction of their home.
- Pray that funds are raised to help recover the loss they have experienced.
- Pray for their spirits as they walk through the next difficult months.
