In Memory of Jerry - The Gift That Keeps on Giving - ECAware

Earlier this year, my dad (Jerry) was diagnosed with esophageal cancer after initially being misdiagnosed with an esophageal hernia and acid reflux. The cancer made it difficult for him to swallow or keep down food, leading to many painful and unpleasant complications. Despite this, my dad faced this brutal disease with incredible strength, determination, and courage.
He underwent intensive chemotherapy treatments and an esophagectomy, during which surgeons removed the cancerous part of his esophagus and a portion of his stomach. Recovery was not easy, but it gave him precious time — time to meet his first grandchild, watch his son graduate high school, and celebrate birthdays together.
Sadly, the cancer continued to spread, and my dad was readmitted to the hospital with further complications. There, it was discovered that the cancer had reached stage 4. The care team at LVHN Cedar Crest performed a miracle procedure that allowed him to return home to the house he built, comfortable and surrounded by his loving family for the remainder of his life. My dad passed away peacefully on July 21st.
If you knew my dad — even just a little — you know he was a hardworking man who loved deeply and cared for everyone around him. He was the nicest, goofiest man you could meet — always ready to lend a hand or give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to this GoFundMe. All donations will support his family and help carry on Jerry’s giving spirit by contributing to causes close to his heart, including Esophageal Cancer research and awareness, and the Dennison Fire Company, where he proudly served.
No gesture is too small — your donation or a simple prayer for his family, friends, and everyone affected by this disease is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for helping us honor Jerry’s memory and keep his kindness alive.
Please take the time to read more about Esophageal Cancer. The symptoms at the beginning are mild while the cancer hides deep inside.
