The Gift Of Time

Many of you may know already that our family was grief stricken just a short time ago after our youngest grandson was delivered 5 weeks early after a routine check-up turned horribly wrong.

A typically healthy pregnancy for the first 34 weeks turned horribly wrong without notice.  A routine appointment identified Mom with an elevated blood pressure which sent her off to labour & delivery for fetal monitoring.  It was identified right away that our precious bundle was experiencing an irregular heartbeat.  Without further delay, an ultrasound was ordered.  Our precious bundle was diagnosed with a fetal condition that left only a 10% survival rate.

Weighing in at 9 lbs 3 ozs, Mason Denver Fairweather was delivered with his wings on October 14, 2016.  Our entire family was heartbroken!  How could we be offered such a precious gift and then have it snatched away so quickly for what seems like no reason.

As I grieved the loss of our grandson, I as well suffered the feeling of complete helplessness and heartbreak as I watched my son and his wife go through the most painful thing they could ever experience; knowing there was nothing at all I could do to change it.  Saying goodbye and letting go of such a precious little bundle so quickly was extremely difficult.  The whole thing seemed like a really bad dream that I just couldn’t wake up from.

As my son and his wife tried to settle back into their life with a chapter that had been opened and closed so quickly, I felt an overwhelming feeling that I needed to do something to honour and signify their loss.  Just a few days after, I learned of equipment that many hospitals in the US and a few hospitals in Canada had began using to give parents bonding time and closure after suffering infant loss.  I immediately began my research and collected the information needed to approach our local hospital to get onboard.  Although it was too late to do anything that may have made a difference for my son and his wife, perhaps I could do something to help someone else.  After several weeks and many phone calls, I am happy to announce that I have been given approval to proceed with my efforts to get a CuddleCot for the Saint John Regional Hospital and offer “The Gift of Time” to other grief stricken parents.

The CuddleCot™ system cools the baby creating an environment that will slow deterioration and allow the baby to remain with the family, providing bonding time and closure needed.  Often, other family members such as great grandparents and aunts and uncles never get to say goodbye.  The CuddleCot allows time needed.

Please help me honour our precious little bundle “Mason Denver Fairweather” by supporting my efforts to give “The Gift of Time” to other families who may suffer Infant Loss.
