Through our Choice Time Kit initiative, we hope to reach every elementary classroom across NYC, providing them with access to chess sets & technology!
There are approximately 700 K-5 public elementary schools across NYC, including over 17,500 classrooms. Our choice time kids will include 5 chess sets for each classroom for a total of 87,500 chess sets. The approximate cost will be $437,500 which will provide every student access to chess in their classrooms along with access to educational chess resources through our Gift of Chess app . Students can learn and play chess during recess, choice time, and dedicated chess sessions.

The Gift of Chess distributes chess sets and technology, leveraging the power of chess to create community, expand opportunity and connection, and ultimately change lives.
Last summer, we provided 10,000 NYC students with their own chess set and access to chess technology during the height of the pandemic.

After a successful start in NYC's schools, the Gift of Chess has now expanded to include four separate initiatives - youth education and global, elderly, and prison outreach.
We believe chess can have a transformative impact on the lives of children, teaching them invaluable life skills such as critical thinking, patience, and leadership. As part of our continued youth education efforts, we will be donating sets to additional students across NYC as well as other cities across the US. Every dollar raised will go directly towards the purchase of chess sets for children, along with providing educational resources and access to the Gift of Chess global community.
As a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization, all donations made to The Gift of Chess through our partnership with GoFundMe Charities will be tax-deductible.
