The Gemoll's with added expenses

Friends and Family,

We are starting this fundraiser to help our mom, Caroline. Recently it has become increasingly hard for her to work 2 jobs, care for our dad, Bill, and keep up with housing responsibilities. It has also been hard for her to take care of herself with everything happening so suddenly. For those of you who do not know our story, I will give you a little background of what our family has been going through recently.

Our dad, Bill Gemoll, has recently been diagnosed with Frontal Lobe Dementia which is a very rare form and it took a bit for the doctors to be able to diagnose him with this disease. This all started about 2 years ago when our mom started to notice our dad was forgetting how to say words here and there but we didn't think anything of it as it wasn't too noticeable if you weren't with him every day. Then they started doing some testing to see if they can see anything going on and the doctors ran tests and weren't able to find anything abnormal. We carried on with life for another year as normal and that is when this disease got worse. Scan after scan and test after test everything was coming back normal and healthy but how was he unable to form sentences anymore or communicate to the full extent? In August of 2022 is when he was unable to speak at all, couldn't put together any words and all you could understand was yes or no. After running more tests and ruling out every other neurological disease is how they came up with this diagnosis but this didn't come until February 2023. Right now he can still recognize people but it may get to the point that will no longer happen. He is very emotional especially when he sees people he loves dearly.

This has turned our world upside down. If you don't know our dad, he is one of the most caring and generous people you will ever meet. He has always been a very active member of our church community and is loved by so many. He loved spending time with family, going fishing, hunting, cooking, cutting wood, gardening and so much more. Going from doing all that to nothing is very hard on all of our family to see the dad we know and love, not be able to do anything he loves anymore.

Recently this has progressed to the point that it is getting harder for him to walk and he has had some pretty serious falls that have landed him many trips to the ER. He is unable to eat a lot of food now as he is unable to swallow effectively. Showering, shaving, and getting dressed has become increasingly harder and really cannot be left unattended. We as a family have decided that we are going to put him on Hospice care to get some extra support which was a difficult decision. Having the support of family and friends has been so amazing and we thank every one of you for being there for us.

Our mom has never had a time in her life that she hasn't had to take care of someone, it started with our grandma who was left side paralyzed whom she cared for over 25 years, then our sister Rachael who had Bacterial meningitis (she had 3 small children as well), now our dad who needs around the clock care. Somewhere in the middle of that, our mom had to have open heart surgery and get a double bypass surgery which is why she was no longer able to care for our grandmother before she passed away in 2021.

On top of all this medical stuff happening with our family over the last few years, there are other expenses that our mom has incurred that are necessary to have done but have been putting off due to not having the finances to do so.

My mom's wish was to take one last vacation with my dad before he is no longer able or is no longer with us and now won't be able to take that with all these added expenses.

Below are some of the expenses she has incurred over the last few months that have made her very emotionally/financially drained.

Medical expenses
New Transmission on car
Septic Replacement
Furnace replacement
One last trip with my dad
Work leave so she can spend more time with our dad
Funeral expenses

We appreciate any amount you can donate to help take some stress off our mom, Caroline and be able to spend more time with our Dad, Bill. It would mean so much to our family.
