Our friend, son, and brother Garrett Bruce left us way too soon, on September 21st, 2017, just six days after his 24th birthday. Garrett, a healthy baseball player, passed away in his sleep due to an undiagnosed Pulmonary Embolism. A blood clot had formed in his leg, broke off and traveled to his lungs, which caused his sudden death. Garrett's biggest goal for his life was to "Make a Difference," and with his life here on earth being cut too short, he was unable to figure out just how he would do that. That is where we all step in. In honor of Garrett, his friends and family are called daily to make a difference by helping others in need.
In 2017, after Garrett passed away, a memorial foundation was created in his name so that we could carry out his hope of making a difference in the world. Since the foundation's creation, we have donated to DPAS Assist the Officer Foundation, Women's Auxiliary to Children's Medical Center of Plano, multiple scholarships for baseball players at Hill Junior College, paying off layaways for children Christmas gifts, and Haun Elementary School Book Fair and lunches. In addition to the donations, the Memorial for Garrett encourages others to "Make a Difference" in the world by performing random acts of kindness.
To continue to make a difference in Garrett's honor, we were hoping to raise funds to continue the Memorial Foundation. This month is the 5-year anniversary of Garrett's "Angel Day," as his mom calls it. In honor of the 5th year, we aim to raise $5,000 between his birthday, September 15th and his angel day, September 21st. Any amount you can donate will help make a difference in the lives of others in Garrett's name. If donating is not possible for you at this time, we ask that within those days, you perform a random act of kindness for somebody and encourage others to do so as well. Show the acts you do in Garrett's name by hashtagging #GarrettsWish #MakeADifference. Thank you all for your love and support in honoring Garrett's Wish!
