Game Over Books is a small Boston-based publisher run by nerds who have worked tirelessly since 2017 to publish, uplift, and support diverse voices in poetry and fiction. As with most publishers in 2026, we’ve seen an uptick in the cost of playing the game. Print costs are increasing. Online sales are decreasing. Though other presses have understandably raised their prices, we are committed to keeping the cost of our books the same and running as many sales as we can. Game Over Books profits solely come from book sales, donations (shout out to the Patrons,) and the rare award for our hard work and sick books. And then they go right back into the press. With this year’s fundraiser, we have a big ask because Game Over Books wants to go big in 2027. Even if we don’t make the goal, we’re still planning on doing all of these things. It just might take us longer.

For 2026/2027, we are setting a goal of $25,000(!) for the next year's worth of books with the same high standards for editing, covers, production, and, of course, authorship that you've come to expect from us. But that's not all! Game Over Books is looking to bring on a Managing Editor to organize the press' titles and keep us all on track. But wait! There's more! Game Over Books is looking to finally start the Game Over Quarterly, a print magazine that will be published four times a year with the explicit goal of bringing the Game Over Books ethos to the world of lit magazines. Focusing on publishing emerging and established writers in poetry and prose, the Game Over Quarterly will be seeking work that is entertaining and thought-provoking, whether that be upbeat, dark, or otherwise. The type of work that makes you say “oh shit!” and you have to pause and look around to make sure no one actually heard you say that out loud but then you turn to the person closest to you and say “I have to tell you what I just read.”

If you can support us now, we’d be grateful. However, times are tough so there are plenty of ways to support us without breaking the bank. You can share this fundraiser with your friends. You can share our posts across social media. You can hold your local bully upside down by the ankles and shake change out of their pockets. Grand larceny. There are plenty of things that will help GoB. But, as always, word of mouth is still the best way to get the message out.
