Game Over Books is a small Boston-based publisher run by nerdy artists who have worked since 2017 to uplift, support, and publish diverse voices. Getting these incredible books into the hands of readers is a crucial part of a successful press’s mission, and after Small Press Distribution folded, we successfully moved distribution to Asterism Books. Even with the incredible work they've done, publishing books in 2025 has become a more daunting task with the costs associated with shipping and printing steadily increasing, attacks on LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals, and anti-intellectualism on the rise.

In 2025, Game Over Books has been passed over for many grants since we are not a non-profit entity (we're a for-profit venture that makes no profit) but we're still going strong.

For 2026, we are setting a goal of $4000 for the next year's worth of books. This is a lowball estimate on what it would be to cover costs especially with inflation on the rise, but we understand that there are more pressing things that require your attention and financial support. All funds secured would go toward '26 titles as well as unannounced '26 projects.

Game Over Books is not the only press to struggle. Independent publishers, especially ones without financial sponsors, are constantly on the chopping block. This year we saw many independent publishers and bookstores retire from the space because of financial issues and creative burn out. But Game Over Books will continue to publish titles that will push poetry and prose to the next level.
