The Gallant Family (Charley, Nash & Angus)

My name is Mitchell and my sister Charley and her partner Nash are currently at the IWK with their 2 year old son (my nephew), Angus. Back in January, their world shifted when Angus was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, a devastating condition that leads to the loss of motor neurons and progressive muscle weakness. Since then, their lives have been a blur of hospital visits, doctor’s appointments, and endless uncertainty.

The toll has been heavy—not just emotionally but financially too. Charley and Nash have been forced to juggle the constant back-and-forth trips to the IWK, which has drained their resources and put immense pressure on them as a family. They’ve done everything they can to stay strong, but no parent should have to endure such hardship.

And now, things have taken another difficult turn. Due to complications from Angus’s condition, he’s been hospitalized again at the IWK for an unknown amount of time. It’s a crushing blow, one that adds yet another layer of challenge to an already incredibly tough road.
