The FWA Early Learning Center

Donation protected
The Florence Webster Allen Educational Foundation Ltd. (FWA) was founded in 2009 in memory of the late Florence Webster Allen, a decorated educator of the Liberian education system for over four decades. The goal of The Florence Webster Allen Foundation Ltd. is to develop the Liberian child through education and advancement, to empower the Liberian family through the building of communities, and developing learning environments to meet family needs.

FWA is an organization that is rooted in bettering the Liberian people one family and one community at a time. Our goal is to continue to create jobs, opportunities, and advancement for the people of the Cinta.

Since our start we have been working with the Brownell Public School located in Cinta, Margibi County where we were able to provide 273 out of 400 students and some teachers with brand new shoes through the Shoes to Share program. In partnership with Eta Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. we have also distributed backpacks and school supplies to our students.  In the 9th Street community we were successful in assisting 27 students register in school as well as providing them fabric in sewing their uniforms.

In close proximity of Brownell Public School is The Allen Farm which has generously agreed to give FWA a portion of their land in constructing the Florence Webster Allen Early Learning Center. In rural Liberia it is difficult to find a safe, clean, and internationally standard learning environment, so it is our hope to provide just that for our students. This institution will target children between the ages of three (3) and five (5) years of age in providing them with the essentials needed for kindergarten at Brownell Public School. Many children go to kindergarten completely unfamiliar with the alphabet, numbers, colors, etc. which leaves them lagging behind, and forcing teachers to backtrack on what is already being taught in the class room.  A program such as this will not only allow early learners to obtain the boost they need for school, but also allows knowledgeable adults to gain the chance in being compensated by serving as teachers, teacher’s assistants, and child care providers.

Targeted Population:                Children ages 3 to 5 years old within a mile of the school’s location.

Number of students:                 40

Other targeted Students:     Children ages 6 to 8 with special needs or have never attended school.

Other targeted population:  10

Location:                                             Allen Farm Cinta, Margibi County (52 miles from Montserrado County on the right)

Mission Statement - To mentor and mold the young minds of Margibi County children in a clean and safe environment operating within the guidelines of the Ministry of Education. We will use the Ministry of Education National Early Childhood Development Curriculum as our guide to educate our young learners. We also plan to have the parents involved with the teaching of their children.
