Hi my name is Joy and I am a patron of the wonderful horse sanctuary: The Friesian Experience in Cartmel, Cumbria.

To raise funds I am doing the Great North Swim on June 15th.

Why this sanctuary and why the Friesian breed?

These Black Beauties are human-devoted, full of personality, and gentle giants. They meet you where you are, for who you are--a gentle companion mirroring your energy and feeling. this sanctuary and Time with them is a lesson in mutual respect, acceptance and love. They'll laugh with you and embrace your tears, ultimately leaving you with an indelible Friesian Smile. Asking nothing in return, they merit our care for just being who they are.

The horses drive the "why" of The Friesian Experience: to provide best care and lifelong sanctuary to Friesian horses in need...and give humans access to these amazing creatures through unique, meaningful experiences designed to share knowledge, create awareness, and offer solace, all with the hope of increasing compassion and positive change in the world.

Housing 15 horse residents and 2 ponies currently they require significant upkeep to keep them happy and healthy and to do what they do best, love and support their human counterparts.
