My name is Elina O'Hare, and I'm making my first large-scale short film.
The story revolves around grief and how it drastically changes lives. It also shows how it can destroy who you are if you let it fester.
This story is very personal to me, as I've seen many people go through traumatic events, but I have also gone through it. The heart of my film is to show that grief is permanent and you never outlive it, but you can learn to live with it. I believe that too often we force people to get over it, or we throw around the phrase "time heals all wounds." Grief is traumatic and forces you to rearrange your life. It forces you to be a new person, and it makes you sensitive to life around you.
I want to tell a story that shows how effective grief can be when you allow it to rule your life, but at the same time, I want to tell a story that shows how grief is ever-present and you cannot escape it. You simply learn to live with it.
Set in late 50s - early 70s, the film follows the life of a young girl as she battles grief while simultaneously wondering if she’s going crazy. She must deal with the psychological issues before they inevitably ruin her.
My short film will release in May of 2026, and I would love your support! It will also contribute to my graduation. Thank you!
