Project Story

In "The Fish and the Wolf," 18-year-old Zara Storm sits battered and cuffed in an interrogation room, reflecting on her turbulent relationship with her strict mathematician father, whose demands for excellence clash with her teenage rebellion during tense family outings and dinners filled with arguments over science, history, and generational differences. As flashbacks reveal their strained dynamic—marked by philosophical stories, hidden resentments, and a looming family tradition—a sudden crisis forces Zara to confront her deep-seated emotions, transforming disdain into unexpected action. The narrative explores themes of blood ties, unspoken love, and the thin line between hate and devotion, culminating in a profound realization about familial bonds amid uncertainty.

Director's Statement

The film originates from a deeply authentic yet often suppressed emotion; the bitter resentment toward a parent whose love manifested solely through relentless lectures and criticism. It captures the profound, wrenching realization that this long-harbored hatred evaporates instantly when an external force humiliates or breaks that parent.

The film explores a universal experience; the momentary despise we feel toward our parents during youth, stemming from perceived generational divides and the sense that we inhabit entirely different worlds. Yet it ultimately reveals a deeper truth - that parents and children remain irrevocably bound by blood, an enduring connection that transcends misunderstandings
and time.

I need to put it on screen so the kids who are still sharpening their intellect into a knife against their parents can see what happens when the blade finally turns outward, and so the parents
who mistake control for protection can feel what it feels when you protect the one who you thought you always despise.

Ultimately, I hope this film encourages people to embrace vulnerability, asking the questions you’re scared to know the answer to, while just delaying the inevitable. This film is an emotion to blood relation, an apology, and an inner voice speech from every son and
