The First (Retired) Police Facility Dog
Donation protected
Introduction: Hello, everyone! We urgently need your help and support for our beloved retired police facility dog, Scottie. Scottie has been an incredible source of comfort and joy to countless individuals, and now he is facing a tough battle with cancer. We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts, seeking financial assistance for Scottie’s much-needed cancer treatment.
About Scottie: Scottie is more than just a facility dog, he’s part of the first Police Facility K9 Team in all of Los Angeles County and the entire state of California. Since 2012, Scottie has worked in the Hawthorne Police Department with his mom, Officer Lameka Bell providing emotional support, comfort, and love to those in need. Scottie has spent thousands of hours bringing smiles to the faces of children in court, veterans in rehabilitation centers, and individuals facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives. His impact has even far surpassed city limits. Scottie’s impact has reached across several states in the US in the form of inspiration, comfort, and an enduring legacy of compassion. His presence and overall impact on the community has paved the way for many other police departments to adopt the idea of getting their own “Scottie”.
Scottie's impact on the world of facility dogs served as inspiration for the establishment of two notable nonprofits: the International Police Facility Dog Association (IPFDA) and Project Opportunity. IPFDA is dedicated to creating and upholding best practices for future facility dogs in law enforcement. Project Opportunity was founded with the primary goal of creating opportunities for underserved children within the community. Scottie serves a symbol that exemplifies the belief that anything is achievable.
Scottie’s Diagnosis: Recently, Scottie was diagnosed with lymphoma. It has been a devastating blow for our team and the community he has touched. Scottie’s cancer is treatable, but the treatment comes with a significant financial burden, including chemotherapy, and ongoing medical care. Cancer diagnosis aside, his veterinary team has determined Scottie’s condition is manageable with treatment.
How You Can Help: We are reaching out to our community and beyond, asking for your support to help us provide the best possible care for Scottie. Your generous donations will go directly to our nonprofit the International Police Facility Dog Association to help cover his medical expenses, ensuring that he receives the treatment he needs to overcome this illness.
Every dollar counts, and no contribution is too small. Your support will not only help Scottie beat cancer but also allow him to enjoy the rest of his retirement still being able to provide comfort and healing to those a little closer to home.
Please consider donating, sharing Scottie’s story, and spreading the word among your friends and family. We are immensely grateful for any help you can provide. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in Scottie’s life and the lives of the countless people he has touched.
Thank you for being a part of Scottie’s journey towards recovery. Together, we can give him a second chance to continue making the world a better place.
With heartfelt gratitude,
