"The Figure" a Muhlenberg College Short Film

Director’s Note:
The Figure is a film that sits close to my heart because growing up as a young black girl I have always been curious about Christianity in relation to whiteness and how I’ve felt at times that my melanated skin doesn’t always fit the image of a “good christian woman”.

Short Synopsis:
“The Figure” is a film that questions what it means to be a black Christian in a white world. And how to survive in that grey area. This film follows the story of Joshua, a 20-year-old African-American man who has a burning passion for painting. He has recently moved to a predominantly white town, with his mother Bri. Joshua’s mother becomes the new preacher at a church in town. He begins having second thoughts and begins to question what his faith means and what it looks like. He uses his passion for painting to guide this journey and paints what he thinks Jesus looks like causing controversy between himself and his mother. He soon realizes he either has to decide to choose his faith or assimilate into what he’s been taught
Budget:
To do this film correctly and honor the story we are looking to raise about $6000! This budget will help us pay for actors, locations, equipment, set props, and food for the cast/crew.
