The Fight Against Stage 4 Big C

Donation protected
UPDATE (April 2020): this page was originally created to take financial burden off my family from medical expenses and make as many memories as possible in the allotted time we had left with Brian, thankfully many of which we were able to accomplish. Such as going to Niagara Falls, visiting family, and even going to Brian's favorite place, the Keys. Unfortunately, Brian lost his battle with cancer after a hard fought and courageous battle. If you wish to donate for the benefit of the kids or my mother please feel free to, but it is by no means expected. You can view Brian's obituary here and add your favorite memory or story of Brian if you wish  https://www.buhrig.com/obituary/Brian-Norris?fbclid=IwAR3l9Vrwu4Xvn8mPig93ZBHMXmbWa4Bs0pPlGy4a3Xxz_n6xtr0XvsbGPMU

Thank you for everything over this past year...Brian always said "if love could cure cancer I would be okay"

A few weeks ago, my step-father, Brian, was having abdominal pain. At my mothers urging he went to see his PCP, only to find out he had a tumor on his liver.  After a stressful couple of weeks, multiple tests and results, and meeting with numerous doctors, it was determined he has Stage 4 Bile Duct Cancer. Being told you have a tumor is scary, being told that tumor is cancer is terrifying...Unfortunately, that nightmare has become a reality for my family, like so many families before us that have been affected by this terrible disease.   We have exhausted every option for care and treatment to have the best odds to beat this horrible disease.  Luckily, world-renowned cancer treatment hospital Johns Hopkins, in Baltimore, admitted Brian for care. The prognosis is not encouraging but we keep hope that more amazing things have happened, so why not us, right? They say cancer doesn't have a face until it's someone you love. For our family, that face is now unwillingly Brian. The man I've grown to know as someone I can always rely on in my times of need and a level-headed person in any situation is now the man who needs our help. He would've made this page himself but that's not who he is, that's not who we know him as. He is the strongest person I've ever known and not one to ask for attention or help. But the fact of the matter is, we do need help. Brian is trying to continue to work to the best of his ability but some days it's simply just not possible...being treated at Johns Hopkins is a blessing but the 3-hour round trip is taxing and sometimes requires overnight stays in Baltimore at hotels to make appointments.  My mother, who has become his main caregiver, is currently working 60 hours a week between 2 jobs...something that cannot be expected to be maintained through his entire treatment, as she will be by his side and his rock. Positive thoughts are what's getting us through this, but at the same time, you have to be a realist...if the prognosis is correct we only have so much time left to make as many memories as possible. When the prognosis came back my parents asked us what our "bucket list" was to do as a family. For my little sister, Delaney, going to Niagra Falls as a family was her wish. My little brother, Kevin, wants to visit and spend time with family in Virginia. However, these activities require money and time off of work on top of the medical expenses already accruing. This is where we turn to you, our friends, family, colleagues, and peers for your help. Any donation will be immensely appreciated and go towards making these coming months as stress-free as they could possibly be in a situation like this. Thank you so, very very much - Dave
