The Fight Against AML - Troy Sherman

Donation protected

Hello, everyone. This GoFundMe is in support of my fiancee, Troy Sherman.

In late January/early February of this year,
Troy developed a cough, was fatigued, and
found himself easily becoming short of breath. He went to the doctor, who thought he had
bronchitis. He was prescribed an antibiotic, a
steroid, and a cough suppressant pill. These
worked for a couple days, then his symptoms worsened.  He was tired and fatigued all the
time, short of breath, and had a constant
cough.

A return trip to the doctor and extensive tests showed something was wrong, and he was
admitted to a hospital (February 25) here in
Phoenix. Four more days of tests and several
blood infusions later, the diagnosis came
(March1) that Troy had AML (acute myeloid
leukemia).

He was immediately transferred to the Mayo
Clinic for additional tests and to begin chemo
treatments (daunorubicin and cytarabine).

Numbers have become very important;
hemoglobin counts, platelet counts, red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts... Blood
infusions occur daily, he is on oxygen, and anti-biotics are delivered via a picc line IV.

Fevers, chills, extreme fatigue, physical
exhaustion, hair loss... These are the results of the cancer and the treatments. Anyone who
has had a brush with cancer understands the
difficulties.

I’m Matthew. I’m his domestic partner,
co-parent with Troy to our dogs, and his
fiancee (I proposed in May and he made me
the happiest guy in the world by saying “yes”).
If you know Troy, you know he is independent,
caring, sincere, honest, funny, level-headed,
funny, zen, hard-working, and dependable. He is truly the best of men. He is loved by his
friends, respected by his co-workers, and is
very much loved by me and our four-legged
kids, Duke and Baron.

The next year is going to be tough. He’ll have
to have a bone marrow transplant. Short-term
disability and long-term disability benefits will
only cover so much. SSD involves red tape.
There will be additional treatments, hospital
visits, and round-the-clock care needed to get
Troy through this.

It was suggested that I start this GoFundMe
page to ask people who know Troy to join in
his fight against leukemia and to beat it.
I stand firmly by his side. I hope you will stand
with me.
