The Fight for Family chronicles the story of Jackie Biskupski and Laura Milliken Gray, two lesbians - a lawyer and a legislator - who fought to provide LGBTQ+ families in Utah with legal protections through second-parent adoptions starting in 1996. Our work and that of so many others, like Kate Kendell former director of NCLR, led to the creation of LGBTQ families and marriage equality in Utah and across the United States. Our work ultimately reshaped the definition of the American family, and as attacks on LGBTQ+ families are resurgent, the Fight for Family shows us how to continue to the fight for equal rights.
