Update 8/31: Louis passed away peacefully at 8:42 this evening with both of his parents and sisters at his side. He will forever be loved and missed. We want to thank all of you for your love and support as many of you did not know my brother but gave. He is now at peace with Jesus, no longer in pain, no longer suffering, no longer hungry or cold due to homelessness. Please continue to pray for his and our peace
Update 8/30: First off, we would like to say THANK YOU for all the love, support, and prayers you have all sent! It means more than you all will ever know. Some better news today. They were able to remove Louis from the ventilator this morning and he is breathing on his own. He is extremely agitated and combative and continues to be restrained. We met with the trauma doctor who says that while he has come off the ventilator and is currently doing well, it could change and require ventilation again. He is still not responding to any commands or following direction. His prognosis is still uncertain and it may be a year before we know what type of function and improvement, if any, he will have.
On August 23rd, our brother Louis was hit by a car while crossing the street in Riverside, CA. He is currently in the ICU, sedated and on a ventilator with severe traumatic brain injury, multiple facial fractures, broken leg, collapsed lung and now pneumonia from the ventilator. He is failing all of the attempts to remove him from the ventilator and does not respond when the sedation is turned down. His prognosis is very poor at this time. We as a family are all traveling suddenly to California to make some decisions regarding his care and what his wishes would be. The money would go to help my parents with travel expenses since they are both in their 80’s living on VERY LIMITED social security, so this is causing a great financial burden on them as well. My sister and I are helping as much as we can and it has been very stressful for us all! Please keep my brother and our family in your prayers, even if you are unable to help. I will update when we arrive in California and are able to be at the hospital and speak with the doctors.
