The family of Thomas Masters

Donation protected
Today we said goodbye to our beloved nephew, Tommy. Although this has been a very difficult time for our family we have greatly appreciated the kindness and compassion shown by so many. Knowing Tommy is now in heaven and free from pain and suffering provides us with strength as we continue to mourn such a profound loss.

Tommy was born with Spastic Quadriplegia - a severe form of Cerebral Palsy. As a result of his medical condition Tommy could not walk, lacked most motor functions, could not speak and required dedicated care as a child and as an adult. Tommy was only 23 years of age and the oldest of his siblings, followed by brother, Cash (16) & sister, Sullivan (13) who he loved very much.

Despite Tommy’s disorder he was a happy, social and exuberant young man who loved his friends and family. Tommy’s smile, positivity and genuine personality would light up any room he was in. He was truly a special, brave and courageous person.

Three weeks ago Tommy was admitted to the hospital for minor surgery to replace his Baclofen pump which regulates medication to help manage his severe muscle spasms. After what seemed to be a successful procedure Tommy went home to start his recovery. The next day, Tommy experienced a complication associated with his surgery that caused him to stop breathing, resulting in severe brain damage. His lungs and liver were also no longer functioning. After several days on life support, Tommy’s parents Tom & Amy made the difficult but necessary decision to let him be with God.

We had the opportunity to be with Tommy during his final hours and told him how much he meant to all his family and friends. We feel blessed to have had this opportunity as not all are able to say their goodbyes before a loved one passes. He will be truly and forever missed.

Tommy was a happy boy and although this body was at the mercy of his medical condition this did not stop him from smiling, laughing and living life to his fullest. Since birth, his parents have both worked relentlessly to provide Tommy with everything he needed and also to provide the consistent medical care to manage his condition.

No one prepares for something as devastating as loosing a child, certainly when there is no known reason to do so.. nor does one plan for the costs associated with funeral expenses and time away from work to grieve and mourn the thing that wasn’t supposed to happen. Normally I am not someone who is comfortable asking for help but I know how much my sister, brother n law and their family would benefit greatly from any generosity from those who are able to provide support. I am hoping this reaches family, friends, colleagues and anyone who may be willing and able to provide prayers, positive thoughts and/or a financial contribution for this wonderful family. And if you could, please share with friends.

With love,
