I can't just sit back and do nothing. My siding contractor has had the same crew for the 10 years I've know him. I have always watched his men work and admired their dedication to making the job look perfect. Marco, one of the main guys, was a very hardworking young man. I have noticed him on more than one occasion swap out a piece of material he didn't think looked right. He was a good man. He wasn't making much money. He did what was right. Other guys wouldn't do that. He did his job and then some.
Last Thursday, after 10 years of seeing him form job to job, I finally shook his hand. I thanked him for being so particular and doing such a great job all the time. I felt compelled to do that because I had never before and felt so embarrassed that I had not. He was a great man in my eyes.
Tragically, his life was taken from him in front of his 8 year old son on Monday night. Marco and his family just arrived home from a Church Christmas event. Murdered over someone who wanted a few bucks, a phone, whatever. Instead, an awful soul stole something irreplaceable. Unbelievable. Two kids without a father. Marco was a valuable asset to our world. No longer.
I'm glad this story is getting the media coverage it deserves. I pray that his wife and two very young children get the grief counseling they desperately need to try to go on with their lives. I feel like I need to do something. I spoke to his boss and he is going to get me an address for his wife. I am asking to see if anyone is interested in donating a few extra dollars for me to deliver to this poor family. I know it's the holidays. Money is always tight in December. Even a few bucks. They are in need and I felt compelled to share this to my friends to remember to cherish every moment. Marco shouldn't have been killed. This is unreal.
